I just went to a gardening class for R.S. last night and we always have a garden, so just let me know what you want to know. We usually grow tomatoes, corn, zucchini, pumpkins, peppers, cucumbers. I want to try lettuce, beans, and peas this year. We also have strawberries and are getting raspberries.

I know nothing except that home-grown lettuce is bitter. Good luck!

I'm not much help, but we're going to try and start one this year so I'll let you know if I have any advice, good luck! (sorry, but I did laugh at your green egg story, glad you weren't injured!)

Thanks, Evonne! Linda, do you do any prep work on your soil?
Sarah, I totally agree with lettuce. I planted some in WVC and it tasted horrible. We are a no go there.
The green egg story really is too funny to resist a laugh!

We have done a veggie garden a few times. Although we certainly didn't get enough out of it to do more then snack on it, the kids loved the experience. The tomatoes were great and produdced for a long time. Depending on you preference, I would suggest trying a few different kinds of tomato plants. e.g. cherry tomatoes, roma tomatoes and the great big kind (whatever they are called). My kids love cucumbers so they were a hit too. Another favorite sucess story are the pumpkins. They are very viney and need a lot of room. We didn't really allow very much room for them in our small little garden area so they ended up spilling out onto our lawn which was fine. Our pumpkins weren't huge but we got several of them. I think we ended up using them all to cook with (pumpkin pie anyone?) but we may have carved one of them into a jack-o-lantern though I don't remember for sure. We have a little flower bed that I struggle to keep looking decent. Not really much advice there. Good luck!

Great advice! I love your description of produce, it is the same as mine (the big ones)!
Thanks everyone!
Wish me happy planting.

My friend does this blog called Square Foot Garden: http://www.mysquarefootgarden.net/. It's got some pretty great stuff on it, I wish I had a place to plant a garden.
